Borsalino celebrates Hollywood icon Humphrey Bogart with a Fall Winter 2019/20 collectable and a new social media campaign featuring Model and The Toy Guns Rock Frontman Justin Gossman. In honor of the great actor Humphrey Bogart, who always wore Borsalino hats on screen and in his daily life with such inimitable style, Borsalino launches its third season collectable the Bogart by Borsalino Cut 3 hat in collaboration with the Humphrey Bogart Estate and celebrated with a new social media campaign featuring Justin Gossman, renowned model, and US rock-band The Toy Guns frontman.
Designed for Fall Winter 2019/20, the Bogart by Borsalino Cut 3 is a reinterpretation of the iconic hat the Hollywood actor loved so much: a high crown and medium brim, personalized with blueberry shaved felt and an exclusive two-color band with Jacquard print. The inside of the hat boasts two special tributes to Bogart: a stylized silhouette of the actor featured on the satin lining and one of his most famous quotes: “The only thing you owe the public is a good performance,” imprinted in gold lettering on the black leather inner band. The Bogart by Borsalino Cut 3 also features its own exclusive hatbox.
Between the 1930s and 1950s, Humphrey Bogart starred in dozens of memorable films, often playing the role of a soft-hearted tough man. One of his most famous parts was Rick Blaine in Casablanca, a 1942 film by Michael Curtiz in which Bogart wears an iconic Borsalino that has established its rightful place in cinema history. The connection linking the Maison and film is a special one with Borsalino hats worn throughout the years by other greats such as Robert De Niro in Once Upon a Time in America (Sergio Leone, 1984) and Tony Servillo in The Great Beauty (Paolo Sorrentino, 2013.) But most of all, the Italian Alessandria-based firm allowed its name to be used in two cult films from the 1970s starring Alain Delon and Jean-Paul Belmondo: Borsalino and Borsalino& Co. In 2011, Milan’s Triennale Design Museum celebrated this connection with the exhibition, “The Cinema and the Hat: Borsalino and other Stories.”
With protagonist Justin Gossman’s dramatic looks and an aesthetic that hinges on minimalist rock-glam from the 1970s, this social media campaign pays a style tribute to the great Hollywood actor by creating an alchemy that proves to be incredibly elegant and chic. Inspired by vintage rock Polaroids that contrast with the historic backdrop of Florence Italy, the stills and short video clips bring the Bogart by Borsalino Cut 3 to life with an effortless modern and nostalgic look. Through Justin’s natural swagger, the clips relive exactly what Humphrey Bogart would say himself: “The only thing you owe the public is a good performance.”
